UAS Collaboration

UAS Collaboration

ASI autonomous air vehicle collaboration technology was developed in 2001 which solved the teaming within a domain, collaboration across domains, and teamed collaboration. The Auctioneer™ technology provides collaboration between multiple autonomous, unmanned air vehicles with decentralized distributed control. It is designed to solve dynamic battlefield problems in a peer-to-peer ad hoc network with intermittent communications. ASI technology features fast self-organizing capabilities and fast resolution of problems in dynamic air environments coupled with the most efficient use of all the available resources autonomous unmanned or manned in the air space. Auctioneer™ provides 2034 solutions today.

UAS Mission Complexity

UAS Mission Complexity

ASI’s PreAct® is the cognitive engine of choice in providing highly advanced autonomous adaptive tactical behaviors when coupled with knowledge from domain experts. Highly complex behaviors in either fixed-wing or rotorcraft air systems can be provided and easily extended without rewriting software. Situation Assessment, Activity Planning, Intent Interpretation, Action Dispatching, Information Management, Error Management and Plan/Goal/Knowledge Sharing modules are all integrated within the PreAct® engine speed the solutions to adaptive tactical behaviors. ASI technology is designed to integrate all battlefield elements for coordinated actions of unmanned and manned air, ground and marine assets.

UAS Environmental Capability

UAS Environmental Capability

ASI’s PreAct® based intelligent solutions allow autonomous air systems to overcome problems and successfully achieve mission objectives in extreme all-weather conditions and environmental difficulties. PreAct® smart systems are onboard (not tele-operated) so they can be designed to carry the expertise of your most knowledgeable pilots to interpret sensor inputs and select the best actions to solve local environmental problems whether in the air or on the ground. ASI intelligent systems are designed to respond to environment changes in highly dynamic battlefield conditions.
With a PreAct® “brain” executable and successful solutions even with environmental difficulties can achieve mission goals.

UAS OPSEC

UAS OPSEC

One of the greatest advantages of onboard intelligent systems based on ASI’s PreAct® technology is that virtually all upper level “thinking” can be accomplished right on the unmanned air system without the need for communication transmission from the aircraft. Thus the autonomous air vehicle can have a very low signature and avoid detection by hostile forces. Broadcast instructions can be received by multiple UASs and through each system’s situational awareness and ASI collaborative technology each air system can coordinate actions to achieve complex mission goals. When outbound communication is needed then highly compact intelligence is transmitted through burst spread spectrum techniques rather than streaming raw sensor or control data for remote human use, thus maintaining a low OPSEC signature. An onboard “brain” solves many of OPSEC most difficult signature problems.

UAS Operational Control

UAS Operational Control

Advanced smart unmanned air systems based on ASI’s PreAct® technology allows onboard intelligence to solve difficult operational control problems. Once the tele-operational link or even a central control link is not required multiple fully autonomous air systems can work independently of any human control. This allows human controllers to focus simply on upper level strategic mission goals rather than lower level platform, sensor, or payload operations. Thus a fleet of unmanned vehicles can be sent on a mission, collaborate to achieve the mission even in highly dynamic air combat environments and return to base all with only a single operator. This force multiplier can have a profound influence on the way unmanned systems are deployed in a battlefield environment.

UAS Bandwidth

UAS Bandwidth Management

Autonomous bandwidth management is easy with ASI’s PreAct® technology. Since very little bandwidth is needed with onboard smart systems the need for bandwidth allocation is greatly reduced. Instead of transmitting detailed sensor or cockpit flight data for situational awareness to a remote human controller ASI smart technology transmits only highly compact intelligence and only as needed and at optimal times to reduce bandwidth use and to maintain a low aircraft signature profile. Instead of receiving detailed tele-operational control signals smart technology solves operational and mission objective problems onboard without the need for external communications. This allows battlefield bandwidth demands to be greatly reduced.

UAS Mission Endurance

UAS Mission Endurance

Embedded expertise and the ability to respond to environmental and situational changes allows ASI’s PreAct® based systems to extend missions from hours to years. The collective knowledge of multiple domain experts can be entered into “thinking”, smart systems to deal with any problem just as a human would. Given appropriate robotic tools even routine systems analysis, maintenance and refueling can be performed. Mission endurance is thus not limited by human control factors but by the durability of the unmanned hardware.

UAS Maintenance

UAS Maintenance

Intelligent analysis based upon ASI’s PreAct® technology can automate systems analysis and maintenance given appropriate sensors and manipulative tools. Smart “thinking” systems can include the best analysis and maintenance techniques from your experts. The ability to reason about a system problem onboard an unmanned air vehicle can greatly improve the chances of identifying and correcting system problems before mission deployment, and of completing a mission or successfully returning the vehicle to a friendly force controlled area even with equipment damage.

UAS Awareness

UAS Awareness

ASI’s PreAct® systems moves awareness from simple sensor data transmitted back to a human operator to complete onboard situational awareness and intelligent autonomous actions. Actionable information not only is used by onboard smart systems to carry out mission goals but situational intelligence can be transmitted in highly compact communication bursts to other unmanned air systems and humans to increase overall success of battlefield plans. Intelligent systems can reason about what actionable information is most important and transmit only intelligence useful to other battlefield participants thus reduce bandwidth requirements and likely detection.

Situation Assessment, Activity Planning, Intent Interpretation, Action Dispatching, Information Management, Error Management and Plan/Goal/Knowledge Sharing modules are all integrated within the PreAct® engine to insure the highest level of awareness and the ability to act upon the current situation.

ASI understands that most robotic systems are “sensory deprived” thus the need for greater intelligence onboard. However, as new sensors are developed and deployed PreAct based systems are easily expanded to accommodate new sensors. PreAct based systems only adds to existing software rather than requiring an entire software system to be rewritten.

UAS Dependency

UAS Dependency

ASI’s PreAct® systems can provide fully autonomous onboard sense and avoid capabilities. Unlike many software systems ASI technology is designed for highly dynamic air combat situations. PreAct systems can plan successful counter-strategies and react in real-time to threats. The smart system can choose to direct the unmanned air vehicle to take evasive actions or deploy countermeasures thus improving the probability of mission success and preservation of the UAS asset.

UAS Speed and Maneuverability

UAS Speed and Maneuverability

While Speed and Maneuverability are not dependent upon an intelligent control system it is important to note that ASI has proven technology designed for fighter aircraft in battlefield conditions. The design of PreAct® systems can provide fully autonomous behaviors at high speeds when other decision systems may be too slow.

UAS Stealth

UAS Stealth

Extremely reduced outbound communications and intelligent decision making by ASI’s PreAct® based smart system allows the UAS to operate in stealth, low signature mode through an entire mission. Intelligence and collaborative transmissions can be received without a corresponding outbound transmission. When critical intelligence is required to be transmitted the intelligence can be transmitted in short bursts and at a time and by a method to reduce detection.

UAS Self Protection

UAS Self Protection

Smart systems based ASI’s PreAct® technology can incorporate the best strategies and techniques to protect the UAS. The intelligent use of avoidance maneuvers, jamming and threat diversion through the use of expendables is easily accomplished to protect the air vehicle and accomplish the mission. Situational awareness and option availability coupled with distilled knowledge from the best fighter pilots allows the UAS to select the best alternative to respond to any given threat. PreAct based systems are designed to allow additional knowledge to added to the system without a software rewrite. This allows the self protection abilities of the aircraft to be updated to match new threats.

UAS Obstacle Avoidance

UAS Obstacle Avoidance

Smart systems based ASI’s PreAct® technology is designed to respond to dynamic conditions for aircraft. ASI has over 19 years experience in creating semi-autonomous and autonomous fixed-wing and rotorcraft aircraft systems for battlefield environments. ASI systems insure the most intelligent response to high speed obstacle avoidance.

UAS Navigation

UAS Navigation

Smart systems based ASI’s PreAct® technology can incorporate the best navigation systems with the best human expertise to provide intelligent, reliable aircraft navigation which is highly adaptive to the battlefield, stealth environment. ASI systems are designed to continue execution of mission goals even in the situation of communication or GPS signal loss. Onboard intelligent systems can solve complex navigation problems without the need for high signature transmissions to human controllers.
