Norman D. Geddes, Ph.D. - Founder and CEO

ASI's founder and chairman, Dr. Norman Geddes, has led the development and commercialization of breakthrough Associate Systems technology across a broad set of domains, contributing directly to the design and development of many of the intelligent systems algorithms and knowledge representations used in the PreAct® intelligent software suite.

Prior to founding ASI, Norman led the development of intelligent user interface technology as a part of the DARPA Pilot's Associate program as Director of Operator Support Systems with Search Technology, Inc. Prior to that position, he served as Director of System Development at Marconi Avionics, Inc., where he led business development and systems engineering activities for defense electronics products. He also developed and captured major projects that included equipment design and production for the A-7, F-16 and F-5 fighter aircraft. Norman also served as Design Engineer with General Electric Company's Simulation and Control Systems Division, and as Flight Controls Research Engineer at Systems Research Laboratories Inc.

Prior to his civilian career, Norm completed a six-year tour as a US Naval Aviator. While at the Naval Air Development Center, he served as lead test pilot for tactical jet projects on the A-7 C/E aircraft and for advanced aerodynamics projects flying the T-2C jet trainer. He holds a Master of Science degree in aeronautical systems from the University of West Florida and a Doctorate degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Geddes has published numerous articles and book chapters, and currently serves on the Computer Science Industry Advisory Board of the Southern Polytechnical State University in Georgia.

Robert Simpson, Jr., Ph.D. - Vice President and Chief Scientist

Dr. Robert Simpson whose primary research interest is in applied artificial intelligence, is ASI's Senior Principal Scientist and PreAct Business Area Manager responsible for funded research in support of ASI's core PreAct technology. Prior to joining ASI, Bob was at Information Extraction and Transport, Inc. (IET), where he was the Chief Scientist and Principal Investigator (PI) for a DARPA sponsored project evaluating cognitive systems under the Personalized Assistants that Learn program. Before joining IET he worked at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) as a Principal Research Scientist where he was Co-PI on an ARDA funded GTRI research project called "Case-Based Reasoning for Knowledge Discovery". He also investigated the representation and use of meta-data in a DARPA interoperability program called the Fast Connectivity for Coalition and Agents Project (FastC2AP). This project proved that agent-based technology can provide key capabilities identified by users as critical for dynamic interoperability in military architectures.

During his ten+ years of employment with the NCR Corp., Dr. Simpson was the Director of NCR's Human Interface Technology Center (HITC). His key technical accomplishments while at the NCR HITC were establishing technical initiatives in intelligent software agents, image understanding, case-based reasoning, and spoken language.

During his USAF career he was the Program Manager for Machine Intelligence at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) responsible for developing the national technology base in knowledge-based systems, image understanding, automated planning/design, and machine learning technologies.

Doctor of Philosophy, Computer Science - Georgia Institute of Technology
Master of Science, Information Science - Georgia Institute of Technology
Bachelor of Science, Education - University of Georgia
